This tour provides the perfect introduction to Venice. You will explore the two sides of Venice; start in St Marks Square, the large piazza which is the heart of Venice and continue to explore the intricate, narrow and winding back streets of Venice.

The first stop for many visitors to Venice is Piazza San Marco. This large square is at the very heart of the city and is home to the famous Basilica di San Marco and the distinctive pink and white Doges Palace.

You will also explore the back streets of Venice, the narrow alleyways are home to beautiful canals, churches and piazzas that enthrall visitors. One of those you will visit was the home of Marco Polo, while there you will learn more about the famous explorer.

Meeting point

Tour departs from the entrance to the Royal Gardens, located along the waterfront on St Marks Square. Follow the line of trees for around 100 metres to come to the Gardens entrance.
Please report at the meeting point 15 minutes before the start time. This is mandatory to allow time for pre-departure briefing.

The tour starts from the entrance to the Royal Gardens on the water front of St. Mark’s square. Accompanied by a guide you will set out on your walking tour which introduces many of the most exciting sights of Venice.

Visit Marco Polos House and a . In St Marks Square see the Doges Palace and the adjoining prisons and listen as your guide will tell you the fascinating stories behind these buildings.

Then enjoy a guided tour of the interior of St Marks Basilica. This grand building dominates St Marks Square and is one of the most iconic structures in Venice.

Also take a walk through the Labyrinth of backstreets which make up the hidden side of Venice, you will find a labyrinth of narrow passageways and alleys, which many tourists never see.

The tour ends at the Rialto Bridge.

The tour was very interesting, showing us the main attractions in St Marks Square but also around the back streets where tourists don't usually venture. The guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She made sure everyone was keeping up and when we got to the Rialto Bridge made sure we all knew how to get to where we wanted to. This tour is not for people with walking difficulties as you are up & down steps over the bridges.

Pre-booked - never used this company's services before and so were not too sure what to expect...... All arrangements were 'spot-on'!! Organiser at designated meeting place on time, split into three groups with our own guide, radio/earpiece receiver and our guide gave excellent commentary to the group as we all walked along at a very comfortable speed. All questions were answered fully too...... We skipped the line, which was great, it was a very busy day for tourists...long queue's everywhere. The guided walk enabled us to get to grips with the city lay-out which made the rest of our trip more interesting. We had a brilliant time - highly recommended.

This was an excellent start to our stay in Venice. The guide was superb- she was very knowledgeable and her English was excellent. The only slight downside was we didn't have long in the Basilica but it was certainly worthwhile to skip the queue. It was a bit misleading to mention the Doges Palace in the advertising as we assumed we would be going in there so didnt book another tour but this wasnt the case and we had to queue for that at another time.

The confirmation voucher includes the local activity operator’s contact details and local telephone numbers at the destination. They will happily answer any logistical questions you may have. This tour can easily be taken by those arriving in Venice as part of a cruise. Most cruise companies offer water taxi transfers into St Marks Square (approx 10 minutes). Alternatively if you have more time and would like to explore the enchanting back streets of Venice you can walk in around 1 hour.
