Meet the tour at Piazzale Roma by the bridge called "Ponte della Costituzione". You will be driven to Verona in an air-conditioned bus. There will be a photo stop at Colle di San Pietro where you can enjoy panoramic views of Verona from above and learn to understand why Verona was chosen by Shakespeare as the perfect setting for the world’s greatest romance. The tour starts from the foot of a castle overlooking the town.
As you stroll towards the city, stop for a skip-the-line visit to the ancient Roman amphitheatre, a 1st century marvel considered one of the greatest amphitheatres in Italy and one of the top opera venues in the world. Visit the beautiful Basilica of Saint Anastasia and see the Verona Duomo from the outside.
Visit Juliet’s house (from Romeo and Juliet) and gaze up at the famous balcony where Romeo wooed Juliet, see the courtyard beneath and the walls covered with love notes. Touch the bronze statue of Juliet for good luck.
You will next be taken to the historic center where you get a glimpse of the real history of the city of Verona. Admire the gorgeous plazas, Piazza Bra and Piazza delle Erbe to see the Palazzo Maffei, the Palazzo Barbieri (Town Hall) and the famous Mazzanti Houses whose facades are decorated with beautiful 16th-century frescoes. Pay your respects to the statue of Italy’s most famous writer at Piazza Dante.
Ask your guide for recommendations on where you can have lunch (not included in the tour) and try local specialities like risotto, polenta and even donkey meat!
After lunch, walk along the river past the Casa di Romeo and two very famous arches, the ancient Roman gates of Porta Borsari and the Arco della Costa, where you’ll be acquainted with a bizarre local legend (involving a pure-hearted person and a dangling whale bone).
You will then be visiting the Scaliger Tombs, a group of 9 funerary monuments in remembrance of the Scaliger family who once ruled Verona. These ornate tombs are an amazing example of Gothic art. See the Lamberti tower and the iconic Castelvecchio Bridge, all before your guide puts you back on the train to Venice.
