You will begin your tour at the central fountain of Campo San Giacomo di Rialto. You will be taken to the historic, open-air Rialto Markets, where many Venetians shop for daily fresh produce and seafood. The twin hearts of Venice’s food scene; the Rialto Fruit and Vegetable Market and the Rialto Fish Market will give you a gastronomic insight into the lives of local Venetians.
Taste sumptuous local wine and cicchetti along the way to two of Venice’s most popular local bars. The cicchetti is Venice’s answer to the Spanish tapas and includes local delicacies like crostini (bread with delicious toppings like whipped cod) and Venetian panini (technically sandwiches, but so much more). At each bar, your foodie guide will be by your side to guide you on your choice of two of the best cicchetti and of course a glass of wine, Prosecco or spritz to wash it down.
Your next stop will be the Cannaregio, a favourite among locals for its great food scene. Cross the Grand Canal with a lovely gondola ride and reach Cannaregio, once a Jewish community. Taste a different kind of cicchetti in another local bar here. Fritti is a common dish of fried fish or vegetables made popular in this very area. Savour the influence of the Jewish community on not only Venetian cuisine, but the Italian food culture as a whole. Enjoy your fritti on a stick as you stroll across bridges and piazzas of Cannaregio.
Your last stop of the food tour will be a friendly and atmospheric neighbourhood trattoria called La Colonna. Here you’ll be warmly greeted by the host and served a plate of the day’s pasta special with a glass of wine.
The tour ends at the Rialto Bridge.
